From crawling to sitting

Today, July 26, 2006, without all of the coaching we've done to try to get her to do other new tricks, Erin figured out how to go from the four-point crawl position to sitting up. The trick is tucking the knee far enough under her body. I wouldn't yet say she has mastered it, but it's going well.

Crawling, meanwhile, is still a work in progress. She can go short distances using the military crawl (with tummy on the floor). She can hold herself in the all-up crawling position, and even lift a hand, and even move her knees a little bit, but she is still more likely to go backwards than forwards, even when the target is straight ahead.

Da-Da-Da-Da....

(Or: Doug learns how to use YouTube.)

July 8, 2006: Erin explodes in a burst of consonant sounds. By evening, she has chosen one as her favorite to repeat over and over, and it happens to be "da." She isn't too into performing her new skill for the camera, however, so to catch a few da's, you have to sit through lots of playing.
